Latin American and Asian markets have emerged with positive trends in consuming more organic food, year over year. The North American market continues to perform well and currently accounts for approximately 50% of the global organic food market's value. A few other key points:
- Among all the segments, organic fruits and vegetables have registered the most significant growth in demand in the developed markets. More than doubling overall industry growth, organic fruits and vegetables registered a growth of over 11 per cent.
- More than one third of organic producers are in Africa. The countries having the highest number of organic food producers are India, Uganda and Mexico.
- The demand for organic food is increasing in conventional food supply stores due to the development of private labels and increasing interest of large retailers such as Walmart, Tesco, and Safeway to sell organic products.
